Brief – Fluerir Exports
We are a SEDEX Audited Organization, which translates to us operating responsibly and sustainably, protecting our workers and sourcing ethically. We are an advocate for the pillars of SEDEX and proudly follow Labor standards and Health & Safety standards. Every day we work towards developing, maintaining, and applying socially acceptable practices at the workplace.
We are conscious of issues including forced and child labour, occupational health and safety, freedom of association and collective bargaining, discrimination, disciplinary practices, working hours, compensation, and management systems.
This era of pandemic has emerged as a lesson and we are more vigilant with social distancing, hygiene, sanitization and random screening of employers to maintain health and safety standards for all.
Leather Sourcing
At Fluerir Exports, we are committed to ecological natural leather. We work towards being respectful to the environment with waste water that does not generate problems. Here at our company, we want to do our part in lessening the negative environmental impact of the leather industry as a whole. We are working to develop a sustainable value chain that takes into account both social and environmental factors. We hope that by doing this, we can help reduce the carbon footprint of the leather industry.
We use leather from special breeds of cow from the Eastern Region of India to bring to you ethically sources leather. We work with tanneries that too follow the highest standards of tanning that do not affect the environment adversely. We particularly use vegetable tanned leather treated with wax and oil to bring that rich patina to your leather goods.
Modern leather manufacturing recycles over 270 million cow hides each year, and we our one such manufacturer. These being a by-product of the food industry, without the ability of the leather industry to transform them into leather, over 7 million tons would go to landfill creating a huge environmental and biological impact. We at Fluerir Exports, like other leather manufacturers make a sustainable contribution to society that needs to consume less, reuse more and a recycle everything.
In 2019 and 2020, it became increasingly difficult to divert hides into alternate uses, and in some countries, both cattle hides and sheepskins ended up in landfill. This created a considerable cost for the abattoir to avoid environmental harm. It’s a thought that more than 15% of all hides in the USA amounted to this. We like other leather manufacturers are contributing to avoiding this serious waste (leather hides being byproducts) dumping ethically, that could have otherwise led to an environmental crisis globally.
At Fluerir exports we keep ideating with the uses of the waste from leather. For example leather trimmings from the manufacturing process can be repurposed as stuffing, (into boxing punch bags for example) or combined with other materials to make leatherite an alternate to leather, or composites like leather board, which is used for insoles and heel inserts in footwear. Leather as we know is bio-degradable, depending on the type it takes anything between 10 to 50 years. We see leather trimmings being creatively incorporated into wall coverings, living accessories, and we can also use the trimmings to make leather ropes and make rugs from them. The possibilities are endless…
Selection
Leather has a timeless beauty that gets better with age. Unlike many materials, leather gets more supple and softer over time, developing a rich patina that only adds to its appeal.
Although the colour and texture in every hide or skin is varies giving each piece its unique spots and patina since each hide responds differently to wax and oil thus giving you its unique characteristic. We work with vendors that provide us the best mix of selections and we start the selection process at the stage where we source our blue and then we do another check at the level we form our base crust and then the final checking of the leather happens once we finish it. This is painstaking and time taking but we believe in giving it our all when it comes to quality. Leather manufacturers like us toil endlessly to bring out the best quality with the hides we work with, whether its’s a completely aniline or ‘naked’ appearance or one that is finished to last and easy to care for.
Production & Checking
The same approach holds true for the production stage. We have several teams starting from the cutting team, to the skiving and/or splitting team, the clicking team, the pasting team and the stitching team.
The process starts with choosing the right section of the hide for a particular part of the product to create that luxurious and rich experience that our clients expect. Then once the cutting process is over we do a random QC (quality check), then the other processes are carried out with quality checks at every stage. Once approved after all these stages, the goods are ready for packaging…
Packaging
We are conscious of how we treat and handle all the leather products we manufacture. We are ecologically aware and work towards saving the environment and we respect mother earth. For the same, we take special care not to use poly packaging(bags) for our products, thereby contributing our bit into creating less waste. We use the best of corrugated boxes, inner boxes and inserts as per export standards. We customize our packaging as per our client requirements and provide exactly what we commit.
History has led society to believe that making leather was the best way to utilize this by-product and we believe it is still the case. But having said that, we do so, with social and environmental accountability, doing our best and finding better ways to bring the necessary changes, to continuously improve and develop our processes and practices to maintain high standards of integrity and ethics in our organization.
